Welcome to Helen's School

Two years ago my sister and I realized a life long dream and traveled to Kenya as part of an escorted photo safari. Our goal was to see the exotic animals and witness the annual migration on the plains of the Serengeti. We returned with countless photos of elephants, lions, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, and many other species - plus plenty of interesting stories. While our original dream was realized, we returned with another. To help make a difference in the lives of the people we met during our trip, especially the children.

Samburu School - OutsideDuring our two week journey we visited two schools, one in a remote Samburu village and one in the village of Nanyuki. In both cases the schools were extremely basic structures consisting of concrete block walls, metal roofs, dirt floors, no windows, no electricity or running water, and in one case, no toilet facilities. The one common aspect of both schools was the serious overcrowding of children, squeezed shoulder to shoulder on basic wooden benches with just enough room to walk between the rows.

Samburu School - KidsVirtually everyone on the trip talked about how little these children had and how much they would like to help. When we returned home, we sent clothing, school supplies and books to the school in Nanyuki to try, in some small way, to help the children. But we felt we could do more to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.

So now we've taken on a much larger project - raising $25,000 to fund the construction of a new school. We've coordinated all aspects of the construction and are confident that this project can be successful, but now we need your generosity and contributions to make this dream come true.
